Not that long ago, biometric technology was only seen in sci-fi or spy movies. Technology that allows us to scan a fingerprint or eyes, detect specific faces through cameras or access and use computers with our hands and eyes.

Now, biometric technology, or the identification of humans by their characteristics or trains by technology, is becoming so commonplace that it is even incorporated into our cell phones. Finger print scanners are one of the most popular forms of biometric technology and are used mainly for authenticating access to devices or programs and as a replacement for passwords.

While the debate of whether biometrics are a secure replacement for traditional passwords or security measures is on-going, there is a wide range of uses for biometrics that we can use every day to make our lives easier and our daily tasks more efficient.

Just a few months ago, eVending posted about a coffee manufacturer promoted their products with a vending machine that used facial recognition to detect when someone in front of the machine yawned.  Things like voice recognition or facial recognition could provide personal greetings, payment options or selection recommendations for patrons.
