VENDING IN THE NEWS: IKEA SHOWS OFF NEW MACHINES

As we mentioned last week, the vending industry is making some truly great strides when it comes to creating the machines of the future. More and more everyday products that you would not expect are winding up in vending machines all over the world, redefining the very concept of the classic combo drink and snack machine. Swedish furniture giants IKEA are one of the latest companies to get in on the trend, expanding their reach to a whole new audience.

We know what you may be thinking, and no, IKEA has not found a way to cram couches and bookcases into a metal machine. Instead, they have come up with a very clever way to market the upcoming launch of their Winnipeg store in Canada. The furniture company has placed several big yellow IKEA vending machines selling snacks and gift cards in various hotspots around the city. The bottom of each snack vending machine reads “Opening November 28th” to promote the new store. This is some truly fantastic marketing that vending machine companies should take note of, though we would not be surprised if these machines will actually dispense said furniture sometime in the future.
